At first I did not know what it was used for, the "PLEASE KEEP OFF" threw me off. I thought maybe they were just garden charms for whacky old ladies that hate their garden being tampered with. On the ride home the self-watering theory entered my head. Google proved my self-watering theory right when I got home. They look great in my vintage elephant and turtle and are perfect for me since I often forget to water my plants!! Now, if only my cats could read they would be working double duty. (Painting by Julian Ritter)

I often find myself hypnotized at estate sales, staring at a pile of collectors plates with images of cats on them while frenzied bargain shoppers nudge and bump past me. Luckily, I have avoided the tendency to acquire any, much to the surprise to myself! I think it's out of my confusion of what to do with collectors plates. Eat off of it? It is clearly marked not to do so. Hang it n the wall? I have less walls than things to hang on them already, besides plates don't belong on the wall. That special rule breaking thrill I reserve for later in life. Thank god for whatever the reason I can't bring myself to buy them. I need another genre to obsessively collect like I need pound of liver tacos carried by rabid spider monkeys.
Anyways, so this plate here is the first and only collectors plate I ever bought free willingly on my own. Why? Since, you now know collectors plates are not my thing (Especially ones without cats on them. Why even bother?) and ballet is most definitely not my thing. The painting on this plate is just that beautiful with is crazed Degas ballerinas. I almost forget it is a plate, especially on you can not eat off of. Yet, also at times I find myself strangely appreciating that this piece of art in particular is on a plate. The ghost-like painted ballerinas in the background invite me inside via this porthole plate and I like it. They make me think of what it would be like to have died and gone to HELL in 1970s.

This plate is my pretty Hell.

Robin Humphreyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07502746543306373427noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1658494336193976966.post-65940398616761192772010-01-06T17:02:00.000-08:002010-01-10T19:38:58.424-08:001st Sale in New Etsy Shop!
Off to a good start with the sale of this vintage quilted purse.
Robin Humphreyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07502746543306373427noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1658494336193976966.post-29721060276642856772010-01-04T19:41:00.003-08:002010-01-04T19:41:51.868-08:00Welcome Kittydirt Vintage to ETSY
Kittydirt Vintage on Etsy
I made a new Etsy shop to sell my fabulous vintage finds from estate sales! Years ago I started going to Los Angeles Estate Sales to find jewelry tools and art supplies. I now also use vintage jewelry pieces I get from estate sales in my jewelry line. I even sell the great vintage clothing I come across on Ebay. But, along the way I started collecting things that caught my eye that I liked here and there, for me. I have acquired so many nick-knacks that I am at my limit and want to sell the treasures I find from now on via my new Etsy site, Kittydirt Vintage.

Why Kittydirt you ask? Well, just because something has a little dirt on it doesn't mean it's not the best hidden treasure ever, just like the day I took big, fluffy, baby Bentli♥Balboa home off the streets ! A true diamond in the rough that just needed a good scrub down and a little tlc.

Kittydirt Vintage is meant to be fun and a venue to share the things I like and enjoy with you. So for my logo it was only natural that it be a big fluffly cat, and not just any big fluffy cat, but Bentli♥Balboa, of course!! Î store all my vintage finds with fresh lavender so I thought Bentli kicking flowers or hearts instead of dirt would get the fresh quality across. ♥Robin Humphreyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07502746543306373427noreply@blogger.com0
